Terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect Wednesday
afternoon attacked a Federal Road Safety Commission,FRSC, patrol vehicle
in Kano, northwest Nigeria , killing two officers while one was
injured.
The FRSC personnel were on official duty in a remote area of the city, along Madobi Road when they were attacked.
The
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris who confirmed the incident to
P.M.NEWS on phone said the Police and Joint Task Force, JTF, have
stormed the area in search of the gunmen.
The Madobi axis through Panshekara area has been identified as one of the major hideouts of the Islamic miltants.
In recent times, the area has recorded a number of disturbances by the dreaded Islamic militants.
According
to the Commissioner of Police, the FRSC officers were four inside the
car, “the hoodlums trailed them on motor bike and opened fire on the
vehicle while on motion and the driver lost control. Two of them died on
the spot while one got injured. The fourth person did not sustain any
injury.
“Our men and the JTF have moved into the area and other
falshpoints across the city. And I assure that we will definitely close
up on them.”
Idris also said the Police have arrested eight
suspects over Tuesday’s attack on his men, “we have arrested eight
suspects and they are giving us useful information on their members. We
recovered three rifles from the including the one they snatched from our
men. We are not taking chances and we plead on the good people of Kano
to provide us information on any suspicious movement or strange faces.
We are determined to stamp out terrorism from Kano.”
The gun men trailed and shot dead two police men attached to a team of Polio Immunization officials on Tuesday afternoon.
The latest killings of uniform men in Kano have left residents under fear and apprehension.
